Why You Should Visit Dripping Springs, Texas

Dripping Springs is a stunning Texas Hill Country destination just 40 minutes outside of Austin, and 3.5 hours from Dallas-Fort Worth. If you live in Austin, a Dripping Springs day trip is very doable!

Why visit this Texas town? Dripping Springs has the largest concentration of wineries, breweries and distilleries in all of Texas! Plus, it has absolutely gorgeous Hill Country views and hiking trails!

Whether you want to hike, take a scenic drive through the rolling hills, visit a winery, distillery, or brewery, shop in the historic downtown, or frolic through wildflowers, Dripping Springs has it all.

Named the official “Wedding Capital of Texas,” this beautiful hill country town is the perfect getaway for couples, families, and anyone looking for a peaceful experience.

I’ve put together a guide of things to do in Dripping Springs, including where to eat, drink, hike, shop, and stay. I’ve also listed the best times to visit, and what to know before you go!

Don’t forget to buy travel insurance for your trip! I use SafetyWing, a travel insurance subscription service, which is super affordable and allows me to travel worry-free!

WHEN TO VISIT DRIPPING SPRINGS, TEXAS

One of the most pleasant times to visit Dripping Springs is during the Spring, from early April until late May. You may experience a bit of rain, but you know what they say: April shower bring May flowers.

Visiting Dripping Springs during wildflower season is completely picturesque, and a dreamy site to see as you drive through the rolling hills.

Some restaurants and shops are closed Sunday, Monday, and/or Tuesday, so plan your trip accordingly.

WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

  • Dripping Springs is very spread out. It may take 30 minutes to drive from your accommodations to a winery or hike, so plan your timing accordingly.
  • Uber does operate here.
  • Dripping Springs hosts over 400 festivals and events each year! Check out their calendar to know what’s going on in town before reserving your trip.
  • Although it’s less than 30 miles from Dripping Springs to Austin, the Hill Country is a slower-paced lifestyle, and restaurants close much earlier than in the city. Be sure to factor this into your plans!
